Summer Manager Wanted

Temporary Position: Full Time Summer Manager

Location: Naramata, British Columbia

Housing:  available on site

Term: April 1, 2017 – November 30, 2017

Position Summary:

The Summer Manager role is to provide overarching management of Naramata Centre through the spring, summer, fall program season. The manager will oversee staff and volunteers and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site while operating within the framework of the mission and values of Naramata Centre.

Job Duties:

Oversee the operation of the Centre from May to October:

·         Be accountable for the Naramata Centre Campus

·         Be accountable for all summer operations and report to the Naramata Centre Society Board of Directors

·         Manage accommodations and the campground, ensuring standards for cleaning and laundry are maintained

·         Work with volunteers to maintain the Centre grounds, gardens and buildings

·         Identify issues with grounds, gardens and buildings which require repair working with our maintenance contractor and a board member

·         Manage overall issues as they arise on site - serve as the "final authority" for day-to-day decisions

·         Manage guest relations, working with the Administrative Coordinator

·         Work with a board member, Community Hosts and Administrator Coordinator to develop a detailed plan for the spring, summer and fall experience

·         Oversee and support the Community Hosts to fulfill the expectations of their roles

·         Adjust numbers of Community Hosts as needed for busier weeks

·         Support weekly greeting, check in and out of registered guests

·         Recruit cleaning and laundry staff

·         Supervise the leader of the cleaning and laundry team, in the weekly cleaning and preparing for guests

·         Recruit up to three students for paid roles which support the summer experience

·         Supervise student workers

·         Organize the volunteer work week in May to prepare the Centre for the coming season

·         Participate in evening security

·         Recruit others to provide coverage for weekends off

·         Establish protocol for emergencies, communicate to Community Hosts and all staff

·         Implement and oversee policy for safety, security, missing children, fire, weather events, beach and lake issues, emergencies on site, etc.

Skills and Knowledge:

·         Strong communication skills

·         Strong initiative and judgement

·         Willingness to pitch in on whatever is required to get the job done

·         Strong supervision skills

·          Working knowledge of the Centre

·         Ability to get along well with all personality types

·         Ability to make difficult decisions

·         Ability to work well with existing and new volunteers

  •  Knowledge and ability to work with Centre operating systems (water, electrical and septic systems)

Being:

      Flexible to changing situations

      Willing and able to work long hours including evenings and weekends

Having:

      Experience managing rental accommodation

      Demonstrated ability and experience in upholding Naramata Centre Society Values: Collaboration, Diversity, Integrity, Resilience, Reverence

      Access to personal computer and phone

      Previous management experience required
